Exam 5 (Essay)

Mao and Stalin came to power. Mao and Stalin came to power about the same way. They came to power because they earned it. Stalin came to power because he was on a higher authority and so was Mao. Mao was a lawyer before he came into power so he was allot higher up in authority than most people.

Mao and Hitler are very similar. Mao and Hitler were similar because they overpowered their countries. Mao and Hitler are also similar because they have killed so many people because of what they believed in. Hitler killed people if they were not a Nationalist. Mao killed people if they didn't do what he wanted. In both of these situations many people have been killed.

When a dictatorship is built the main signs are war, fighting, and someone becomes the leader. I think that the main thing that happens every time there is a dictatorship is a war.

World War II ( prompt #3)

The Historical conditions in Germany in the early 1930's were very open. They let you believe whatever you wanted. The Nazis were there because at that time they could believe what they wanted.

Hitler and the Nazis exploited their opportunity to take and consolidate power by signing the non-aggression bill. I think that this made the people think that he would have not done anything, so he would have a lead in them.

I think that the reason why the German people did not rise up against Hitler was because he would have killed them. I think that the Nationalists would have overpowered the Germans.

Spanish Civil War (promt# 2)

"Pablo Picasso's Guernica is a work of art and not propaganda." Propaganda is when information is deliberately spread with rumors or other ways that information is spread, usually to make someone believe something. Pablo Picasso's peice, Guernica is a peice of art not propaganda. To me art is a way of expressing yourself and the way you feel at that time. Therefore Pablo Picasso's Guernica is a peice of art, not propaganda.

In Guernica there are many violent images. There are many people who are dead and looked like they have been murderd. Also in the painting there is a burning building, coming out of the building there are people who look like they are screaming. There is also a dead horse in this painting. I think that this means that he was feeling scared about the war.

The town of Guernica was bombed. I think that this picture is about that. The picture shows the burning government building. This painting also shows the people who died.

1. What does Joseph Stalin's advice to the people of Stalingrad say about him as a leader?

- "Stand firm. Die but do not retreat." I think that this says that he was a leader that wanted to win and woiuld do whatever it took to win. I think that this means that he is quite selfish.

2. Explain why Hitler would react in the way shown after signing a Non-Aggression Pact with Stalin?

- He said that he got them. I think that his reaction was like this because he was still going to be agressive. And about three years after then the war started.

3. Explain the significance of propaganda in this battle, using examples from the posters.

- The posters show alot of killing and how much that Hitler was hated. This shows because that is how the people felt.

4. What do the extremes of the war reveal about what it takes to win a total war?

- It takes alot of dedication and hard work. Sometimes you have to not see your family for a long time. You also have to work through the holidays.

5. How does the story of Vasily Zaitsev relate to the war in Iraq?

- I don't think that it really relates to the Iraq war other than that there is fighting going on.

6. In times of crisis, sometimes heroic figures emerge. Which figure emerged in a similar way to Vasily after the terrorist attacks of 9/11?

- The firefighters, police, Medical assistans, ect. The Army, Navy, The Marines, ect.

Hunger (Book Portfolio)

The Book that I read was Hunger by Sharman Apt Russell. This book was an educational book about hunger and how it lives today. I think that this book can make people realize that hunger is still out there today. That is why I believe that the theme of this book is that even if we don't think hunger is living it still is.

This books supports this theme very much. "Hunger is a country we enter every day," is a quote from this book and it is very true. We never know if we will be able to eat today or the next day. There are many different types of hunger. Some choose to be hungry, and some have no choice. There are many quotes that I could pull out of this book to support the theme, but that quote is in the first sentence of this book and I think it supports the theme that I chose very well. This book tells a lot about how hunger is living today and the quote says the same.

The history of this book is goes back to three important times. In this book it tells about Gandhi and how he used hunger to try to change the world. Gandhi was a major political and spiritual leader of India. Gandhi tried to end violence. He was a Hindu Philosopher. This book also talks about the World War II holocaust. The Holocaust was when the Nazis killed over 6 million Jews and other people from groups they hated. This book talks about this because the people who survived had not eaten for months or even years. The history of this book also relates to Ireland. This book talks about Saint Patrick and how he would fast while he performed Christian rituals. Saint Patrick was a priest.

This book was a very educational book about different types of hunger. This book taught me allot about how hunger still goes on today. Now that I realize there are more reasons to be hungry than your own choice. I now know some people don't have a choice to be hungry. This book has taught me more than I thought it would and made me think more about others and how they live.

Exam #2

The Colombian Exchange transformed the world in a more radical (Slang Excellent; wonderful)way than any other development in world history. One significant effect of this process (A series of actions, changes, or functions bringing about a result) was the establishment of the Triangle Trade. While many factors were a part of the Triangle Trade, the rapid growth in both supply and demand for new commodities was the largest motivating element. This time period may be best associated (To connect or join together; combine)with economic developments, but it is impossible to analyze (break down into components or essential features)this period without considering the intense social impact that the Triangle Trade had on those involved. In truth, a full understanding can only be gained by appreciating (To recognize the quality, significance, or magnitude of, to respect) how economic and social factors (things to consider which might influence or change a result) impact each other in history

The Colombian Exchange is a trade route from America, Africa, and Europe. The Colombian Exchange Transformed the World into a more Excellent way than any other development in World History. One important effect on this change was the finding of the Triangle Trade. While many things were part of the Triangle Trade, the fast growth in supply and demand(when you have something that other people want) for new goods. This time period may connect with economics developments, but it is impossible to break down this period without looking at the great social impact that the Triangle Trade had on those involved. A full understanding can only be respected by realizing how economic and social influences impact each other.
