The Book that I read was Hunger by Sharman Apt Russell. This book was an educational book about hunger and how it lives today. I think that this book can make people realize that hunger is still out there today. That is why I believe that the theme of this book is that even if we don't think hunger is living it still is.
This books supports this theme very much. "Hunger is a country we enter every day," is a quote from this book and it is very true. We never know if we will be able to eat today or the next day. There are many different types of hunger. Some choose to be hungry, and some have no choice. There are many quotes that I could pull out of this book to support the theme, but that quote is in the first sentence of this book and I think it supports the theme that I chose very well. This book tells a lot about how hunger is living today and the quote says the same.
The history of this book is goes back to three important times. In this book it tells about Gandhi and how he used hunger to try to change the world. Gandhi was a major political and spiritual leader of India. Gandhi tried to end violence. He was a Hindu Philosopher. This book also talks about the World War II holocaust. The Holocaust was when the Nazis killed over 6 million Jews and other people from groups they hated. This book talks about this because the people who survived had not eaten for months or even years. The history of this book also relates to Ireland. This book talks about Saint Patrick and how he would fast while he performed Christian rituals. Saint Patrick was a priest.
This book was a very educational book about different types of hunger. This book taught me allot about how hunger still goes on today. Now that I realize there are more reasons to be hungry than your own choice. I now know some people don't have a choice to be hungry. This book has taught me more than I thought it would and made me think more about others and how they live.
